Remove four screws (1), eight washers (2), four locknuts (3) and front plate (4) from battery box (5). Discard locknuts(on older models only).5. Remove batteries (6) from battery box (5). Lift battery by carrying handles built into each battery. Have helper assist.CLEANINGCLEANING AND INSPECTIONWARNINGBattery posts and cables touched by metal objects can short circuit and burn you. Do not wearjewelry, necklaces, or watches when working on the electrical system. Keep tools away fromposts, wires, and terminals.1. Clean battery with nonmetallic brush dipped in mixture of sodium bicarbonate and water. After foaming stops, flushbattery with clean water. Dry with clean cloth.2. Clean retainers and parts by soaking in mixture of sodium bicarbonate and water. Dry parts and apply coating listed inorder of preference.3. See TM 9-6140-200-14 to service batteries.0346 00-3
