Do not smoke, have open flames, or makesparks around a battery, especially if caps are off. If a battery is gassing, it can explodeand cause injury to personnel.Battery acid (electrolyte) is extremely harmful. Always wear safety goggles andrubber gloves, and do not smoke when performing maintenance on batteries. Injurywill result if acid contacts skin or eyes. Wear rubber apron to prevent clothing beingdamaged.Remove all jewelry such as rings, identification tags, bracelets, etc. If jewelry contactsbattery terminal, a direct short may result in instant heating of tools, damage toequipment, and injury or death to personnel.1.Using rags, wipe any dust, dirt, or debris from tops of four batteries (2).2.Remove six filler caps (1) from each of four batteries (2).3.Service batteries according to TM 9-6140-200-14. Add distilled water if necessary.2-6
