ENGINE COMPARTMENT FIRE SENSING ELEMENTS: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (CONTINUED)DTo remove sensing element (1) from 10 mounting and clipETo remove 10 mounting and clip assemblies (4), remove fromassemblies (4), release quarter-turn fasteners (5) and openeach: one screw (7) and one lockwasher (8). Discardclip assembly. Remove sensing element (1) with attached 10lockwashers.rubber bushings (6).INSTALLATIONABCDCAUTIONWhen hand shaping sensing element forinstallation, do not damage sensing elementby crushing or too much bending (allowableradius - 6-inches minimum). Ensure 1/2-inchto 3/4-inch clearance between sensing elementand personnel exhaust tube.ESecure sensing element (1) in each mounting and clipassembly (4) by flipping clip over each rubber bushing (6)installed on sensing element. Secure clip using quarter-turnfastener (5).CAUTIONBefore installation, clean connector fittingsthoroughly with an electrical contact cleaner(item 74, Appx D).Install 10 rubber bushings (6) spacing equally along lengthFRemove cap from elbow coupling. Join connector of sensingof sensing element (1).element (1) to elbow coupling (3) and tighten.If removed, install 10 mounting and clip assemblies (4) onG Remove cap from straight coupling. Join connector ofeight engine compartment clip assembly mounts. Securesensing element (1) to straight coupling (2) and tighten.each with one screw (7) and one new lockwasher (8).HClose louvered engine access door.Install sensing element. Hand shape sensing element (1) tofit in engine compartment. Route sensing element correctlythrough front portion of engine compartment.After sensing element is installed, move rubber bushings (6)on sensing element (1) so each will engage one mounting andclip assembly (4).WARNINGRemove locking pin in valve actuator guard ofengine extinguisher cylinder bottle no. 2 (p14-28).
