Carrier   can   sink during   water   op- erations when trim   vane   is   not extended and locked   in   place. Personnel   can   be   killed.   Extend and   lock   trim   vane   in   water operations   position   before   enter- ing   water. NOTE A    p l y w o o d    t r i m    v a n e    w i th bolt-on   buoyancy   pods   is   re- quired   on   M113A2   and   M1059 carriers   before   attempting   wa- ter   operations.   A   plywood   trim vane   is   required   on   the   M577A2 and   M1068   before   attempting water   operations.   If   not   in- stalled,   notify   unit   maintenance. Practice  emergency  exit procedures   with   personnel   riding in   carrier   before   entering   the water. Attach  one  or  more  marker  buoys to   earner.
