MAIN ENGINE CRANKCASE OIL LEVEL Before starting engine, open engine oil level access door (5) and check toensure that oil level is at least to, or above, the low (L) mark on the dipstick. If not, add oil to bring level to above Lmark on dipstick (see key for required oil type). Check for hydrostatic lock. Start engine. Warm up engine to normaloperating temperature. Stop engine and wait 3-5 minutes. Check oil level again. If oil is within OPERATING RANGE(between Land full, or F, mark on dipstick), do not add oil. If oil level is below the L mark, add oil to within upper limitsof OPERATING RANGE on dipstick (see key for required oil type). Main engine oil fill cap (6) is in enginecompartment.NOTE•After an overnight stand, oil levelmay be from 3/4 to 1 inch above Fmark on dipstick. This is notabnormal. However, if oil level ismore than 1 inch above F mark,have engine checked for internalcoolant or fuel oil leaks.•Transmission and engine containpreservative oil upon receipt.Preservative engine oils PE1 andPE2 are identical to engine oil OE-40, except they contain apreservative additive. PE1 and PE2will be used in the same manner asthe regularly used engine oilOE-40.PE1 orPE2willalsobe used in thetransmission until the firstscheduled 2000-mile or semiannualoil change.E-7
