15-38. APU COMPARTMENT SIDE DOOR AND HINGE ASSEMBLY REPAIR (continued).
NOTE
For proper installation, record number and thickness of shims.

Remove two screws (37) and lockwashers (36), striker (35), and shims (34) from inside of APU compartment.
Discard Iockwashers.

Remove four screws (33), Iockwashers (32), and washers (31) and pull handle (30) from door (1). Discard
Iockwashers.

Remove bumper (29) from door (1).

Drycleaning solvent P-D-680 is toxic and flammable. Always wear protective goggles and gloves,
and use only in a well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothes, and DO NOT use
near open flame or excessive heat.
Clean all parts with drycleaning solvent. Wipe dry with clean rags.
Inspect all parts for cracks, bends, or distortions. Replace any damaged part.
Install bumper (29) on door (1).
Install pull handle (30) on door (1) with four washers (31), new Iockwashers (32), and screws (33).
Apply zinc chromate paste to mating surfaces of shims (34), striker (8), and inside of APU compartment.
Install shims (34) and striker (35) on inside of APU compartment with two new Iockwashers (36) and two
screws (37).
Install pull handle (38) and latch (28) on door (1) with washer (27) and slotted nut (26).
Tighten slotted nut (26) until there is no play in pull handle (38), but handle (38) turns freely.
Aline hole in pull handle (38) with slot in slotted nut (26), and install new cotter pin (25).
Install spring hook (40) and spring (39) in latch (28).
Install lower louver (22) on APU compartment side door (1) with 10 nuts (24), 10 new Iockwashers (23), 20
washers (21 ), and 10 screws (20).
Install upper louver (18) on APU compartment side door (1) with six nuts (1 5), six new Iockwashers(16), 12
washers (17), and six screws (19).
