Exercisegood judgement to keep disassembly and assembly to a minimum.BRepair or replace unserviceable parts and hardware. Always replace packings,gaskets, seals, lockwashers, locknuts, locking wire, rivets and cotter pins withnew parts.C Remove burrs with a stone or file. Remove burrs on closely fitted matingsurfaces by lapping the surfaces with abrasive-grade compound.TORQUE VALUESTorque value given in these procedures apply to unlubricated threads. Followtorque values given throughout this manual. When no torque value is given, followthe Torque Value Guide (Appendix C) to prevent damaging parts.LUBRICATIONApply a light coat of lubricating oil (item 34, Appx D) to parts during repairprocedures to prevent rusting. Lubricate parts during repair and assembly asrequired by LO 9-2350-267-12.CLEANINGABcDEFWire brush metal parts to remove rust and corrosion.WARNINGDry-cleaning solvent (PD-680)is toxic and flammable.To prevent personal injury when using PD-680, useonly in a well ventilated area. Avoid breathing vapors.If you become dizzy get fresh air immediately and seekmedical attention. Avoid contact with eyes, skin andclothing. Use protective goggles, gloves, and clothing.If contact is made, immediately flush with water andseek medical attention. The flashpoint for Type I dry-cleaning solvent is 100° F (38° C); for Type II it is 140°F (60° C). Do not use near open flame or excessiveheat.Clean metal parts with dry-cleaning solvent (item 20, Appx D). Metal orfiber brushes may be used to apply cleaning solvent and to removesoftened or dissolved material. Hand scraping with metal scrapers maybeused to remove soft coatings or deposits.Soak very oily or greasy metal parts in a tank containing dry-cleaningsolvent (item 20, Appx D). The soaking time in solvent varies with typeand amount of material to be removed.Apply white enamel (item 25, Appx D) to interior of hull.Apply appropriate shade of CARC paint (items 67 and 68, Appx D) toexterior of vehicle.Apply deck-covering compound (item 66, Appx D) to areas wherepersonnel walk, such as front deck plates and crew compartment interiors.
