TM 9-2360-261-20-1OIL COOLING SYSTEM COMPONENTS —ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, ANDDIFFERENTIALThe engine, transmission and differential oil cooling system keeps the oil clean and within proper operatingtemperature range. The components of the system and their functions are:Engine, transmission, and differential oil cooler unit (1) is mounted on the engine. By circulating the hot oilthrough this unit, heat is given off to the surrounding engine coolant. Engine coolant is in turn cooled by theengine cooling system (page 2-3).Oil cleanliness is maintained by circulating engine oil through the engine oil filter (2), and differential oilthrough the differential oil filter (3). Transmission oil is cleaned by the transmission oil filter which is anintegral part of the transmission.Differential oil pump (4) is mounted on the transfer gearcase. It pumps oil from the bottom of the differentialhousing and to the differential oil filter (3). Oil flows through filter (3), through cooler (1),and back to top ofdifferential (5).2-11
