PERIODIC CHECK
WARNING
Damaged lifting slings can fall with load. Personnel can be injured or killed. Inspect all slings.
Do not use damaged slings.
NOTE
Chains are inspected on a link by link basis with the chain slack.
1.
Check chains (1) for excessive wear.
a.
For 9/32 inch (7 mm) chain, if any link (2) is worn at any point in excess of 3/64 inch (1 mm) or chain size is less
than 15/64 inch (6 mm) in diameter, remove sling from service. Use drill set as No-Go gauge and/or caliper.
b.
For 3/8 inch (10 mm) chain, if any link (2) is worn at any point in excess of 5/64 inch (2 mm) or chain size is less
than 19/64 inch (8 mm) in diameter, remove sling from service. Use drill set as No-Go gauge and/or caliper.
2.
Check chains (1) for excessive stretch.
a.
If any link (2) does not hinge freely with adjoining link, remove sling from service.
