REMOVAL
Any automatic
WARNING
fire extinguishing system (AFES) unit in need of maintenance or
repair is more prone to accidental discharge. Accidental discharge could lead to
frostbite or other injury. Small parts or tools become dangerous projectiles when
propelled by HaIon discharging at 750 psi. Do not strike cylinder bottles with tools
and do not drop cylinder bottles. To prevent accidental discharge, be careful when
handling cylinder bottles.
The engine AFES is designed to provide from 2 to 4 hours of fire protection AFTER
vehicle shutdown. Turning off the master switch does NOT deactivate the AFES.
Working on the AFES when active may cause serious injury to personnel.
NOTE
Steps 1 through 4 refer to removal of two bulkhead elbow couplings. Replacement
procedures are the same for both bulkhead elbow couplings. If replacing any other
coupling, begin at step 6.
