Fire Extinguishers
The crew AFES has six 7-pound automatic fire extinguishers.
The fire extinguishers consist of steel cylinders filled with Halon 1301 and equipped with a quick-release valve
assembly.
The cylinders contain Halon fire suppressant pressurized with dry nitrogen for use on hydrocarbon fuel fires only.
Crew AFES fire extinguishers discharge automatically when the SCEA receives an electrical pulse from an OFSA unit,
or manually when a crew member operates the MANUAL DISCHARGE toggle switch on the crew T/A panel.
When the crew AFES activates, the ventilator blower automatically turns to the exhaust mode 8 seconds after
extinguisher discharge, but the crew must open the exhaust blower vent (p. 2-188).
