UPPER REAR DOOR HINGES: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (CONTINUED)WARNINGDo not remove both hinge screws at same time.Do not make lifting device cable/chain taut. Onlyremove slack from cable/chain to guard againstdoor dropping when one hinge screw is removed.REMOVALNOTEEDrive sleeve bearings (12) from hinge bosses of door (1) us-ing drive punch and hammer.This procedure applies to both upper rear doorhinges.INSTALLATIONA Open bottom rear door. Close top rear door (1).AInstall sleeve bearings (12) in hinge bosses of door (l).B Apply zinc chromate paste (item 46, Appx D) between matingsurfaces of hinge (7) and shims (6) and vehicle hull.NOTEInstall same number of shims that were removedfrom under hinge.BAttach suitable lifting device to door lifting lug (2). RemoveC Install shims (6) and hinge (7) on vehicle hull with four screwsslack from lifting device cable/chain.(8), eight flat washers (10), four new lockwashers (11) and fournuts (9).C Remove one self-locking nut (3), two flat washers (4) and onehinge screw (5). Discard self-locking nut.D Install hinge screw (5) with two flat washers (4) and new self-locking nut (3).NOTEERemove lifting device from lifting lug (2).Note location and number of shims duringremoval.D With assistant inside crew compartment, remove one hinge (7)and shims (6) by removing four screws (8), four nuts (9), eightflat washers (10) and four lockwashers (11).
