Clean inner and outer surfaces of casting with dry cleaning solvent (Item 13, App C). Dry casting
with compressed air.
Remove sludge and gum deposits with stiff brush.
Blow out all tapped holes with compressed air.
BALL BEARINGS. Bearings require special cleaning techniques. See TM 9-214 for cleaning and
maintenance procedures for ball bearings.

PASSAGES.
Make sure oil passages are not clogged.
Clean oil passages with brass wire probes to break up any sludge or gum deposits.

Dry cleaning solvent P-D-680 is toxic and flammable. Always use in an open area
with good air flow, away from sparks, heat, or flames. Wear goggles and gloves. Do
not breathe vapors. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothes. If you get dizzy
while using solvent, breathe fresh air and get medical help. If solvent gets on
hands, wash them. If solvent gets in eyes, flush eyes with fresh water and get
medical help immediately. Keep fire extinguisher nearby.

Clean seals, cables, and flexible hoses with
general purpose detergent (Item 17, App C)
and water. Dry parts with wiping rag
(Item 61, App C).
