M106A2 MORTAR CARRIER
This carrier is designed to carry the 4.2-inch (107-mm) Mortar M30. The mortar
can be fired from a turntable in the carrier, or removed and fired from a ground
baseplate. The carrier has a crew of six, including the driver. The M106A2s
capabilities and features are:

has an enlarged three-piece firing hatch. This permits mortar to be fired
through an arc of 90 degrees over the rear of the carrier.
It has a cupola with a caliber .50 machine gun.
It is propelled and steered on land and in water by tracks.
It has M17 periscopes around the drivers and commanders hatches for vision
when buttoned up.
It has an M19 periscope stowed near the driver. The periscope can be installed in
the drivers hatch to provide night vision under blackout conditions.
It can be equipped to carry a NBC (gas particulate filter) unit, a drivers
windshield kit, an engine coolant heater kit, personnel heater kit (for cold
weather operation), and an ammunition stowage adapter kit.
