Loading and Tiedown ProceduresThe rear ramp of the M577-series carriersrear ramp requires special preparation toprevent it from falling during transport.See appendix E for instructions.a. Place the carrier in the tiedown position on asemitrailer by using a crane of adequate capacity(15-ton minimum), or drive the carrier onto asemitrailer if a suitable ramp is available.b. Position the carrier on the semitrailer, usingthe trailer’s cargo data plate as guidance. If nocargo data plate is present, position the carrier sothat its weight is evenly distributed over thetractor and trailer axles.c. Set the parking brakes.Only the driver of the carrier is allowedon the trailer bed during loading opera-tions.Do not load on side or lateral slopesexceeding 10 percent or with a tractor-to-trailer offset angle greater than 50. Avoidloading on a severe downgrade, to preventthe payload from rolling forward on thetrailer.The M901A1 and M981 launcher must bein the low stow position for transport.
