Use lockstitching to install all patches,straps, flaps and side fasteners and torepair open seams. Use smallest needle sizeyou can to make weatherproof seams. Allow5 to 7 stitches per 1 inch (3 cm). Back-stitch all thread breaks at least 1 inch(3 cm). Backstitch all ends at least 1 inch(3 cm), except where ends are turned under in a hem or seam or held down by otherstitching. Maintain thread tension so stitch-ing is tight and lock is firmly fixed in centerof material. Trim all ends. Take care, whenrestitching, to make a new stitch line. Allhardware, leather, webbing, lines andnetting used for repair must be the same asthe original material.15-2
