REPLACE PIVOT STEERING BRAKE CONTROLS/LINKAGE (M548A1) -- Continued
Disassembly of pivot steering assembly may be done on a work bench. Right and left sides of
pivot steering assembly are identical. Only right side is shown.
Disassemble pivot steering assembly as follows:
Remove two springs (1) from right and left hand levers (2). Remove two springs from right and left arms (3).
Remove two cotter pins (4) from two clevis pins (5). Remove two clevis pins from two hand levers (2) and arms
(3). Separate hand levers from arms. Discard cotter pins.
Remove two jam nuts (6) securing two rubber bumpers (7) to two arms (3). Remove bumpers from arms.
Remove cotter pin (8) from left inner cross shaft (9) and pull from right side to remove two inner cross shafts.
Remove two washers (10) from inner cross shafts. Remove left and right arms (3) and two washers (11) from outer
cross shaft (12) and pivot steering support (13). (There is no outer cross shaft on left side.) Discard cotter pin.
Remove two springs (14) from pivot steering support (13) and two connecting links (15).
Remove two lock nuts (16), washers (17), and screws (18) securing two connecting links (15) to right and left outer
shaft levers (19). Discard lock nuts.
Remove two cotter pins (20) from two clevis pins (21). Remove two clevis pins from two arms (3) and connecting
links (15). Remove two connecting links from right and left arms. Discard cotter pins.
Loosen two jam nuts (22). Remove two rod end bearings (23) and jam nuts from two connecting links (15).
