ADJUST DIFFERENTIAL BRAKES (M548A1) -- Continued
A weighing scale is not the only scale capable of successfully accomplishing this maintenance
task. Any serviceable spring scale having a 0-50 lb (0-23 kg) minimum range, graduated in 1-2
lb (0.5-1kg) increments, is suitable for use.
Using a strap or rope, connect weighing scale to hand grip on right or left steering lever (1) and measure pressure
required to release steering lever. A pull of 10-30 lb (4-13 kg) should be obtained.
(H) Attach weighing scale to right or left steering levers (1) at center hand grip finger notch.
(H) After pulling back on weighing scale attached to right or left steering lever (1), locking pawl must release from
second notch of quadrant within range of 10-30 lb (4-13 kg).
If right or left steering levers do not release within above cited range and after attempting
steering differential brake adjustment, notify your supervisor.
Repeat Steps 2 - 6 until correct right or left steering lever release pressure is obtained. If adjustment cannot be obtained,
notify your supervisor.
Remove socket (2) from adjusting nut (3) through differential access hole.
