REPLACE TRANSMISSION-TO-DIFFERENTIAL SHAFT (M548A1) -- Continued

INSTALLATION
NOTE
New style universal joints do not have lubrication fittings.
1.
If removed, install four lubrication fittings (1) in two universal joints (2).
2.
Install differential yoke (3) in differential (4).
CAUTION
Make sure universal joint and shaft are properly secured, or transmission will be damaged.
NOTE
Screws (6) and flat washers (7) must be clean, dry, and free of lubricants and paint. Washers
must be 5/32 inch (4 mm) hardened flat steel only. Screw (6) size for 7C universal joints is 1/2-20
X 2.
Use 7C universal joints only. Replace 6C universal joints, transmission yoke, and differential
yoke with 7C universal joints and matching yokes.
3.
Install two universal joints (2), one on transmission yoke (5) and the other on differential yoke (3). Secure with eight
new screws (6) and flat washers (7).
4.
Place shaft (8) on two universal joints (2). Secure with eight new screws (6) and flat washers (7).
5.
Use torque wrench and adapter to tighten screws (6) to 86-94 lb-ft (117-127 Nm) torque. Loosen and retighten to 86-94
lb-ft (117-127 Nm) torque. See WP 0127 00 for torque wrench reading with adapter.
FOLLOW-THROUGH STEPS
1.
Lube universal joints (WP 0128 00).
2.
Lower center seat (see your -10).
3.
Install right and left center floor plates (WP 0394 00).
4.
Road test carrier (WP 0128 00) to check transmission-to-differential shaft for proper operation.
